Travel Insight: Poggio d‘Arno 🤍

This time, we spent almost two weeks at Poggio d’Arno with our family, right in the heart of the Crete Senesi.

We’ve known and loved this part of Tuscany for years, but staying just outside Asciano, one of our favourite places in the region, reminded us why we keep coming back.

Riccardo has created something truly special here. From the warm hospitality to the incredible homemade olive oil, every detail feels thoughtful and genuine.

And then there were the cats. As lifelong cat lovers, Thomas and I were completely lost. They followed us everywhere, kept us company throughout our stay, and made saying goodbye much harder than expected. If bringing them to Germany weren’t quite so complicated, a few of them might have accidentally come home with us. 🥹🥹

Thank you, Riccardo, for a wonderful stay. We already can’t wait to come back ✨

We are Sinah and Thomas. A wedding photo and film duo based in Europe. And no, this was never the plan.

Between us: a few semesters of law, a Master of Engineering, a background in physiotherapy, studies in Creative Media at London Metropolitan University, and time working in a restaurant in Paris. Sinah spent years as an Art Director. Thomas as a Director of Photography.

The cameras were always there but always in service of someone else’s vision.

We thought the plan was to build for other people’s ideas. To stay in agencies, in companies, creating for someone else’s idea of success.

What we didn’t realise back then was how much that path slowly takes away your own way of seeing. And in environments where respect was missing, and our well-being didn’t matter, it became clear: that plan was never meant for us. On top of that, Covid hit and took a lot with it.

We could have stopped. We didn’t.

We came back with a new name, a clearer vision, and a better understanding of exactly what we wanted to make. DIRECTEDART wasn’t a restart. It was the first time we finally got it exactly right for us.

We don’t regret any of it. The studying, the agencies, the detours. They gave us each other and they shaped the way we see, work, and make decisions.

And looking back, we’re glad the original plan didn’t work out. It led us to the couples we now get to create for and that means everything to us.
